Communication and Workplace Effectiveness

Data Storytelling and Business Communication Skills

Most executives and managers in Malaysia have more data than they know what to do with. The gap isn't access to information, it's the ability to turn that information into a story that moves people to act. Reports get submitted. Dashboards get built. And decisions still get made on gut feel, because nobody in the room could explain what the numbers actually meant for the choice at hand.
This programme gives managers and leaders a practical, end-to-end capability in data-driven communication: from defining what a business question actually needs, to choosing the right visual, to delivering a data-backed narrative that lands with an executive audience.
Every session is hands-on, every tool gets applied to real work, and by the end of Day 2 each participant has built and presented an actual data communication they can take back to their organisation. No pre-work required. Everything happens in the room.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of Day 2, participants will be able to:
? Identify their personal data literacy profile and describe at least one specific context at work where a gap is limiting their communication effectiveness.
? Construct a clear communication brief that defines the business objective, target audience, and decision to be supported before selecting any data or visual format.
? Apply core visualisation principles; clarity, accuracy, relevance, and visual hierarchy to evaluate and improve an existing data chart or presentation.
? Select an appropriate visualisation type for a given business scenario and justify the choice against the communication objective.
? Structure a data-driven narrative using a context-insight-implication framework suited to middle/senior management audience.
? Use a generative AI tool to draft and critically evaluate a business narrative, identifying where AI output needs human judgement or authority.
? Produce and present a complete, structured data communication from business objective to visual to narrative within a constrained time frame.
