Essentials of Python Programming

Python is an interpreted, object-oriented, high-level programming language with dynamic semantics. Its high-level built in data structures, combined with dynamic typing and dynamic binding, make it very attractive for Rapid Application Development, as well as for use as a scripting or glue language to connect existing components together. Python's simple, easy to learn syntax emphasizes readability and therefore reduces the cost of program maintenance. Python supports modules and packages, which encourages program modularity and code reuse. The Python interpreter and the extensive standard library are available in source or binary form without charge for all major platforms, and can be freely distributed.

In Sept 2021, Python is ranked as second most popular language in the world. (Source: https://distantjob.com/blog/programming-languages-rank/#:~:text=According%20to%20this%20index%2C%20Python,1%20worldwide%2C%20followed%20by%20Java. ) . Today Python has overtook other languages as the No 1 most popular computer language in many applications. There are many reasons: Pythons syntax is designed based on human natural semantics and thus much easier to learn and read, Python developers grew at a very fast speed and now ranked at number 2 behind JavaScript which is at 15.7M developers and therefore Python is very rich in libraries, Python is backed up by 3 Software giants: Google, AWS and Facebook make it more flexible in API development worldwide. Python is very versatile, efficient, reliable and fast as there is not much major issue running in any platform. Python huge libraries make it capable to support all application development in Engineering, Database, Medicine, Information Technology and many more.

If your company already engaged with Python in many of the development needs, you already make the perfect choice as Python is going to be around for the next ten years. Moving ahead, expose your engineers or programmers with the Essential Python training so that they can even groom the power of Python in your computing needs.

This course provides an intensive learning on Shell scripting through Python programming. Participants will learn from developing very simple programming in Python to building fully functional script program one can use in their daily task. E.g., of the applications are Yield auto-plotting for products in a Company, X-Y control chart system that are able to email the respective engineers if an Action limit is triggered, Products Database system design and so on.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Set up and navigate the Python environment — install Python binaries, use the interpreter, and write and execute their first Python programme using a text editor.
Apply Python's core data structures — work confidently with scalars, arrays, lists, tuples, and dictionaries to store and manipulate data effectively.
Implement control structures and logic — use conditionals, loops, and subroutines to control programme flow and solve real-world programming problems.
Write reusable functions and modules — define functions with positional parameters, leverage Python's built-in modules, and apply Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts using Python classes.
Process files and integrate external data — perform file input/output operations, process text files, and apply regular expressions and command substitution for data manipulation tasks.
Build practical, task-oriented scripts — develop functional Python scripts for real workplace applications such as automated yield plotting, X-Y control chart systems, and product database management.
Visualise data using Matplotlib — create meaningful data visualisations including line plots, bar charts, histograms, scatter plots, and pie charts to support analysis and reporting needs.

Industries: Semiconductor, Electrical appliances, home consumer electronics application, computers

Ahmad Nasser is a seasoned engineer-turned-trainer with over 25 years of industry experience spanning semiconductor giants including Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies, Avago, and Broadcom. Having spent the early part of his career working across Malaysia and the United States — including postings in Oregon, Arizona, and Santa Clara — Ahmad brings a rare blend of deep technical expertise and real-world industry perspective to every training engagement.

Ahmad holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electronics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a Master of Science in Electronics Design from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is an accredited HRDF trainer and a certified TVET trainer in Industrial Automation, and has been delivering professional training since 2010.

Before transitioning full-time into Learning and Development in 2017, Ahmad served as a Principal Engineer at Broadcom, where he designed and managed complex database systems for probe and test operations using Perl, MySQL, and Oracle. That hands-on, problem-solving background is what sets his training apart — learners benefit not just from theory, but from the insights of someone who has built, debugged, and optimised real systems at scale.

Ahmad is widely regarded as a Perl expert, with over a decade of advanced programming experience and a strong track record of delivering both basic and advanced Perl courses across the semiconductor industry. His technical training portfolio is extensive and spans programming, electronics, and engineering methodology.

Technical training areas include:

Basic & Advanced Perl / Python Programming
Unix/Linux/C-Shell Scripting
IC & PCB Test Methodology
Fundamentals of IC Processing & Semiconductor Physics
JMP/JWARP Statistical Programming
Diodes, Transistors & MOSFET Device Theory
SiC MOSFET Test Methodology & Device Theory
Basic Electrical for Non-Electrical Staff
Basic & Advanced Electronics
ChatGPT: Basics to Intermediate
